MARIA RANIERI
PhD in “Telematics and Information Society”, she is a researcher at the Dipartimento di Scienze dell’Educazione e dei Processi culturali e formativi of the Università degli Studi di Firenze. Since 2001 she has been involved in the research activities of the "Educational Technology Laboratory" (http://www.lte.unifi.it) of the Università degli Studi di Firenze and in the post graduate Masters Programme in “Designing and Managing Online Education”. Her main research areas include theory and methodology relating to media and technology in education, as well as work around teachers’ practices and students' learning. On these topics she published several papers and books, among which: E-learning: modelli e strategie didattiche, Erickson, Trento, 2005; E-tutor: identità e competenze, Erickson, Trento, 2005 (with M. With regards to m-learning, she has coordinated (with G. Bonaiuti) the European Project “ENSEMBLE”, whose aim was to explore the pedagogical potential of m-learning to promote social inclusion of immigrant citizens in Italy and France (see: Ensemble. She is member of the panel of reviewers of the “British Journal of Educational Technology” and of the “Journal of E-Learning and Knowledge Society”, the official review of the Italian e-Learning Society. Maria is currently a partner in the EU-funded (Grundtvig) My Mobile project.

PARTICIPATION IN FUNDED RESEARCH PROJECTS
- Scientific referent for the European Project “My Mobile – Education on the Move”, Grundtvig 2010-2012.
-Scientific referent for the European Project “Evidence Informed Policy and Practice in Education in Europe”, coordinated by the EPPI-Center (March 2010- March 2011), within the Call for Proposal EAC/26/2009 “Evidence based-policy and practice: call for proposal to develop networks of Knowledge brokerage initiatives”.
- Participation in the European Project ENSEMBLE, Transversal Programme LLPKA3, 2008-2010, promoted by the Department of Department of Education Sciences and Cultural and Training Processes, University of Florence, and led by prof. Antonio Calvani. The project aims at designing and testing a mobile learning system to promote social inclusion. In this framework, she is a member of the research team with the task of developing guidelines about instructional principles for mobile learning.
- Participation in the OnAir. European Media Education Project, Lifelong Learning Program, 2008-2010, promoted among others by the Italian Association in Media Education (MED). The project aims at designing and testing practices in media education with the direct involvement of teachers and practitioners. In this framework, she is a member of the research team with the task of developing guidelines about designing and testing educational units on media literacy.
- Scientific Coordinator of the Project AMELIS (2008-2010), funded by the Department of the Innovation and Technologies. The projects aims at designing, developing and testing educational multimedia contents for learning languages, to be used with the multimedia interactive whiteboard.
- Participation in the National Project funded by the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) (PNR 2001-2003 - FIRB art.8 - D.M. 199 Ric. 8th March2001): “Science and Technology in the Knowledge Society” – “New dynamics of learning and emerging economic and social from globalization, multiethnic societies and digital economy, and study of the impact on the educational systems” (2003-2006), led by Prof. Paolo Orefice.
- Participation in the ex 60% Project Research (2005): “Adolescents and new technologies in the era of globalization: educational contexts and learning proposal”, led by Prof. Carmen Betti, Department of Education Sciences and Cultural and Training Processes, University of Florence.
